ThermiVa FAQ

Individual results may vary

How does ThermiVa® work?

ThermiVa® uses temperature-controlled radiofrequency to rejuvenate and restore functionality to the vaginal area. A slender pencil-like probe is used to deliver a warm, comfortable heat to labia, vulvar, and vaginal tissue, immediately shrinking and changing the structure of atrophic tissues while also encouraging collagen production over time. Tissue tone and function are thereby restored to these areas, resulting in vaginal tightening and increasing desired sensitivity. The nervous tissue in and around the vagina are also regenerated, which helps with stress incontinence and feelings of urgency to urinate.

Is ThermiVa® painful?

No. ThermiVa® is a very comfortable and well-tolerated procedure. It is performed in the physician’s office without surgery or anesthesia. Patients usually receive three 30-minute treatments scheduled one month apart.

How long do the results last?

ThermiVa® lasts for about 9-12 months, and it is recommended that patients get an annual maintenance treatment thereafter.

Who is a good candidate for ThermiVa®?

Candidates for ThermiVa® are women who, due to childbirth or the aging process, have experienced loosening of vaginal tissue, loss of libido, reduced sexual satisfaction, vaginal dryness, and leakage problems.

How soon do you see results from ThermiVa®?

Visible results are immediate, and functional results begin with the first treatment and become optimal at the third treatment.

What is the difference between ThermiVa® and MonaLisa Touch®?

ThermiVa® and MonaLisa Touch® treatments use different technologies with similar effects, although ThermiVa® is the only technology that treats both the external and internal vaginal tissue. ThermiVa® employs a single-use probe (reducing the risk of infection) to deliver radiofrequency energy to produce gentle heat to the treatment area with absolutely no discomfort. By contrast, MonaLisa Touch® is a laser system that uses a fractional CO2 laser to make tiny cuts into vaginal tissue, which produce uncomfortable prickly sensations during the treatment.

Both are effective in shrinking vaginal tissues and improving vaginal laxity, stimulating new collagen growth and regenerating nervous tissue, and improving or curing mild to moderate urinary incontinence. Results with ThermiVa® last up to one year while MonaLisa Touch® results last up to three months.

Is there any downtime associated with ThermiVa®?

There is no downtime or after-effects with ThermiVa®, and all normal activities can be resumed immediately after the procedure. By contrast, there is temporary swelling and redness after the MonaLisa Touch® treatment, discharge lasting for about a week, and recommended abstinence from sexual intercourse for at least three days.
